Abstract
In order to investigate the haramful trace elements in Korean common food, the contents of copper, lead, cadmium, mercury, arsenic, managanese and zinc are studied in this paperr.
Food sampled studies as shows in table I are cereals; rice(9), barley(3) and corn (3), beans; soybean(3), vegetables; rradish (5), chinese cabbage(5). tomato(4), cucumber(5) and potato(2), fruits; grape(4), peach(4), straw berry(3), melon(1), watermelon(1) and pear(4), Samples are collected form the agricultural field.
The contents of copper, lead, cadmium, manganese and zinc are determined by means of atomic absorption spectrophotometry (Jarrell-Ash Atomic Absorption Spectrophotometer, 82-526) and the contents of mercury and arsenic are determined by spectrophotometry (Beckman model B Spectrophotometer)
The results are shown in table 2-4.
According to the results, it could be concluded as follows:
1) The contents of harmful trace elements (Cu, Pb, Cu, Hg and As) of Korean food are significantly low compared with the foreign standards. This means that food contamination with those harmful trace elements is not significant at present.
2) However, samples studied in this paper were very limitted, this study should be extented to cover the differences by season, geography and farm on basis of statistical concept.
